Vaman therapy at Adinath Ayurveda Hospital

What is Vaman?

Vaman is one of the five Panchakarma procedures — the classical cleansing therapies of Ayurveda. Vaman means therapeutic emesis: a controlled, fully supervised process in which aggravated Kapha is expelled from the body through the mouth, using herbal formulations. It is a medical procedure, not a home remedy, and it is done only at the hospital under the doctor's supervision.

It is used for deep-rooted Kapha disorders — chronic allergies, persistent congestion, heaviness, sluggishness, and Kapha-related skin problems that keep returning despite medicines. When Kapha has built up over years, medicines alone often cannot clear it. Vaman removes the excess Kapha itself, so the body can reset.

Vaman is never done suddenly. The body is prepared over several days first — with oleation (medicated ghee or oil) and fomentation — so the Kapha loosens and moves to where it can be expelled. Only when the doctor confirms the body is ready does the procedure itself take place.

Why Vaman?

When Kapha is deeply rooted, clearing it out works where medicines alone cannot.

Clears deep-rooted Kapha
Removes the excess Kapha that has built up over months or years, rather than just calming its symptoms.
Classical detox for chronic allergies
Traditionally used for allergies and congestion that keep returning despite medicines.
Resets digestion and metabolism
Clearing Kapha helps digestion and metabolism work properly again.
Fully supervised throughout
Preparation, procedure and aftercare are all handled by the doctor and the team.
One procedure, lasting effect
Because it removes the cause rather than suppressing symptoms, the benefit lasts longer than a course of medicines alone.

Are you facing any of these issues?

If any of these sound like you, this therapy was made for your problem.

Chronic allergies and congestion that keep returning
Heaviness and sluggishness that never fully lift
Recurring skin issues linked to Kapha
Mucus and congestion that never clear fully
A heavy, slow feeling in the body despite treatment

Vaman is only advised after the doctor's assessment. If these sound familiar, start with a consultation — the doctor will tell you honestly whether Vaman suits you at all.

Who needs Vaman?

Vaman is only for patients where the doctor finds a Kapha-dominant disorder and confirms fitness for the procedure. It is a targeted cleansing, not a general detox, and it is never given to everyone.

Whether Vaman suits you is decided by the doctor after examination and preparation — not by the patient, and not by a package.

What's involved in a Vaman session?

A typical session lasts one day (after preparation days).

1

Consultation and fitness assessment. Dr. Gaurav Sharma examines you in detail, checks your dosha through Nadi Pariksha, and confirms whether Vaman suits you and whether you are fit for it.

2

Preparation days. Over several days, your body is prepared with oleation — medicated ghee or oil — plus fomentation and a guided diet. This loosens the Kapha.

3

Procedure day. The herbal formulation is given under full medical supervision. The team stays with you throughout.

4

Rest and observation. You rest at the hospital and are observed before going home.

5

Recovery diet. A strict but simple recovery diet is given, to be followed exactly for the days after.

6

Follow-up. The doctor reviews you after the procedure and plans the next stage of your treatment.

Follow the preparation and recovery diet exactly — they are part of the procedure, not optional extras.

How do Adinath experts perform Vaman?

At Adinath, Vaman is prescribed only after Nadi Pariksha and a full diagnosis, and only when the doctor is confident it is the right step. The preparation, the procedure and the aftercare are all handled by the doctor and the trained team — you are never left alone at any stage.

If at any point the doctor feels your body is not ready, the procedure is postponed — safety comes before schedule. After Vaman, the doctor plans your next treatment, because cleansing is the start of healing, not the end of it.

Benefits of Vaman

Allergy relief
Traditionally used to reduce chronic allergies and congestion that keep returning.
Clearer chest
Helps clear the mucus and congestion that Kapha build-up causes.
Better metabolism
Clearing Kapha helps digestion and metabolism work properly again.
Deep Kapha detox
Removes excess Kapha from the body rather than just calming its symptoms.
Lighter body
Patients often feel noticeably lighter and more active after the procedure.
Improved digestion
Supports stronger digestion once the Kapha burden is cleared.

Is it safe? Does it hurt?

Vaman is a classical procedure done only when the doctor confirms your fitness, with complete supervision and aftercare. There is brief discomfort during the procedure itself, and the team guides you throughout.

Vaman is not for everyone. Tell the doctor first if you are pregnant, have a heart condition, severe weakness, high blood pressure, or recent surgery — the doctor will decide whether it is safe for you.

Questions patients ask

What is Vaman for?

Vaman is a classical Panchakarma procedure used for deep-rooted Kapha disorders — chronic allergies, persistent congestion, heaviness, sluggishness and Kapha-related skin problems. It is done only after the doctor's assessment.

How long does Vaman take?

The procedure itself takes one day, after several days of body preparation with oleation and fomentation. The doctor sets your exact schedule.

How many sessions will I need?

Vaman is usually done once in a treatment course. Whether it is repeated later is decided by the doctor after seeing your response.

Is Vaman painful?

It is not painful, but there is brief discomfort during the procedure. The team stays with you and guides you throughout.

Is Vaman safe? Who should avoid it?

Yes, when done under qualified supervision after proper preparation. It is not advised in pregnancy, heart conditions, severe weakness, high blood pressure, or after recent surgery — the doctor screens everyone first.

What do I do after Vaman?

Rest, follow the recovery diet exactly, take the prescribed medicines, and attend your follow-up. The diet is part of the treatment, not an optional extra.

Can Vaman be done at home?

No — never. Vaman is a clinic-only procedure with full medical supervision, preparation and aftercare.

What should I wear or eat?

Wear comfortable clothes. Eat only what the doctor advises before and after the procedure — the preparation and recovery diets are part of the treatment.

What if I feel unwell during the procedure?

Tell the team immediately. They stay with you throughout and are trained to handle it.

Who decides whether I need Vaman?

Dr. Gaurav Sharma, after Nadi Pariksha and your diagnosis. If he feels you do not need it, it is not done.
