Nasya therapy at Adinath Ayurveda Hospital

What is Nasya?

Nasya is the Ayurvedic therapy of putting warm medicated oil or ghee drops into the nose. In Ayurveda the nose is called the gateway to the head, so medicine given through the nose reaches the sinuses, the head channels and the mind more directly than medicine taken by mouth.

The warm drops soften and loosen the mucus and congestion collected in the sinuses, then help the body clear it out. At the same time, the medicine nourishes the tissues of the head region, which is why Nasya is used for far more than a blocked nose.

Congestion, heaviness and sinus headaches come mainly from increased Kapha in the head, while migraine-type headaches and mental fog often involve Vata. Nasya is the first-line Panchakarma therapy for problems of the head, nose and sinuses.

Why Nasya?

A blocked nose, a heavy head and a foggy mind all come from the same place — the head region. Nasya treats that region directly.

Clears sinuses from inside
The medicine reaches the sinus passages themselves, softening and clearing congestion that sprays and steam alone cannot shift.
Reduces headaches and migraine
When headaches come from congestion or Vata in the head, clearing and nourishing the head channels brings real relief.
Improves mental clarity
A heavy, foggy head lightens as congestion clears. Many patients say they can think clearly again after a course.
First-line therapy for head problems
Classical Ayurveda places Nasya first for head-region problems — it is the standard therapy, not an add-on.
Supports allergy relief
By clearing accumulated mucus and calming the nasal passages, Nasya helps people who sneeze and sniffle through every season.

Are you facing any of these issues?

If any of these sound like you, this therapy was made for your problem.

Blocked sinuses
Frequent headaches or migraine
Allergies and sneezing
Heaviness in the head
Morning congestion that takes hours to clear
Mucus dripping into the throat

If your head feels heavy and your nose is blocked, Nasya treats the problem at its source.

Who needs Nasya?

Nasya suits anyone whose problems live in the head, nose and sinus region — especially when congestion and headaches keep returning.

It mainly addresses Kapha collected in the sinuses, and Vata disturbing the head.

What's involved in a Nasya session?

A typical session lasts 20–30 minutes.

1

Consultation first. The doctor checks your sinuses, headaches and general health, then chooses the right medicine and dose for you.

2

Preparation. You lie back with your head slightly tilted. A gentle face and neck massage, with mild steam if advised, opens the channels.

3

The drops. Warm herbal oil or ghee is put into each nostril, a few drops at a time.

4

Rest. You rest with your head tilted back for a few minutes while the medicine works.

5

Clearing. Mucus that drains down is spat out. A gentle gargle follows if the doctor advises it.

6

Post-care. You rest, then avoid cold air, dust and heavy meals for a while after the session.

Come with a light stomach — Nasya is not done right after a meal. Avoid cold food and drinks after your session.

How do Adinath experts perform Nasya?

At Adinath, Nasya is never a routine. Dr. Gaurav Sharma diagnoses you after Nadi Pariksha and prescribes the medicine, the dose and the number of drops for your condition.

Trained therapists then carry out the session — the massage, the drops, the rest and the clearing — exactly as prescribed, watching how you respond.

Benefits of Nasya

Clear sinuses
Congestion softens and clears, so breathing through the nose becomes easy again.
Fewer headaches
As congestion and head-channel blockage ease, headaches become less frequent.
Allergy relief
Calmer nasal passages mean less sneezing and less seasonal misery.
Sharper focus
A lighter head brings clearer thinking and better concentration.
A lighter head
The heavy, foggy feeling in the head lifts.
Easier nasal breathing
Breathing through the nose — especially at night — improves.
A calmer mind
Head therapies in Ayurveda are known to settle the mind as well as the body.

Is it safe? Does it hurt?

Nasya is gentle and safe when done by trained therapists under the doctor's prescription. A mild tingling in the nose is normal and passes quickly.

Nasya is skipped during a heavy cold or fever, and right after meals. Tell the doctor about nosebleeds, recent nasal surgery, or any nasal injury.

Questions patients ask

What is Nasya for?

Nasya is for problems of the head, nose and sinuses — blocked sinuses, frequent headaches or migraine, allergies, and heaviness in the head. Warm medicated drops are given through the nose.

How long is one session?

A typical session lasts 20–30 minutes, including the face massage, the drops and the rest afterwards.

How many sessions will I need?

The doctor decides after your diagnosis. A short course helps a recent problem; long-standing sinus or headache problems need a longer course, reviewed as your body responds.

Is Nasya painful?

No. You may feel a brief tingling in the nose that fades quickly. Most people find the session relaxing.

Is it safe? Who should avoid it?

It is safe when prescribed by the doctor and done by trained therapists. It is skipped during a heavy cold or fever and right after meals. Tell the doctor about nosebleeds or recent nasal surgery.

What do I do after a session?

Rest for a while, avoid cold air and dust, and do not eat a heavy meal immediately after. A gentle gargle helps if the doctor advises it.

Can I do it at home?

No. The medicine, the dose and the technique must be chosen by the doctor and given by trained hands. Do not put oils in your nose at home without the doctor's advice.

What should I wear or eat before a session?

Wear loose, comfortable clothing. Come with a light stomach — Nasya is not done right after a meal — and avoid cold food and drinks afterwards.

Can I take Nasya if I have a cold right now?

If it is a heavy cold with fever, the doctor will usually wait until it settles. Tell the doctor about your cold at the consultation and they will decide.

Will Nasya make me sneeze?

Some sneezing is normal and is actually part of the clearing — it means congestion is moving out. It settles quickly.
