Matra Basti

Gentle daily oil therapy — the mildest Basti for Vata balance and strength.

Matra Basti therapy at Adinath Ayurveda Hospital

What is Matra Basti?

Matra Basti is the gentlest form of Basti therapy. Matra means a small measure — and that is the key. A small quantity of warm medicated oil is administered by the classical Basti method. Because the quantity is small, the therapy is mild, nourishing and easy on the body.

The small dose of oil reaches the colon, which is the main seat of Vata. It softens the dryness there, supports the bowels, and nourishes the tissues that Vata has dried out — the back, the joints and the nerves. Because it is so gentle, the doctor can prescribe it daily, which stronger therapies cannot offer.

In Ayurveda, Matra Basti is the classical daily therapy for Vata. It is used for chronic back pain, constipation with dryness, general weakness and dryness, and Vata disorders as diagnosed by the doctor.

Why Matra Basti?

Strong therapies cannot be given every day. Matra Basti can — because its dose is small and its action is gentle and nourishing.

Mildest form of Basti therapy
The small quantity makes it gentle — the body receives nourishment without strain.
Deeply nourishes Vata-weakened tissues
Warm oil counters the dryness that weakens the back, joints and nerves.
Supports back, joints and nerves
As Vata settles, the back feels stronger, joints move easier, and nerves calm down.
Can be done daily when prescribed
Its gentleness is its strength — daily nourishment, day after day, is what chronic Vata needs.
Safe for the elderly when prescribed
Because it is mild, the doctor can prescribe it even for elderly patients who cannot take strong therapies.

Are you facing any of these issues?

If any of these sound like you, this therapy was made for your problem.

Chronic back pain
Constipation with dryness
General weakness and dryness
Stiff joints
Disturbed sleep from restlessness
Feeling dried-out and weak

If your body feels dry, weak and stiff all at once, Matra Basti is made for that pattern.

Who needs Matra Basti?

Matra Basti suits people with chronic Vata problems — especially those who need gentle, daily nourishment rather than a strong, one-time procedure.

It is a Vata therapy. The doctor confirms it suits you and sets the oil and the daily schedule.

What's involved in a Matra Basti session?

A typical session lasts a few minutes daily, as prescribed.

1

Consultation and prescription. The doctor examines you, checks your pulse with Nadi Pariksha, and prescribes Matra Basti — the oil and the schedule — if it suits you.

2

Warm medicated oil prepared fresh. The medicated oil is warmed and prepared fresh for your sitting.

3

Administered by the classical method. The small quantity of oil is administered by the classical method, gently and with care.

4

Short rest afterwards. You rest for a short while afterwards so the body can absorb the effect.

5

Daily schedule as prescribed. The therapy is repeated daily as prescribed, for the course length the doctor decides.

6

Follow-up with the doctor. The doctor reviews your response and adjusts the oil or schedule if needed.

Each sitting takes only a few minutes. The course length is decided by the doctor — follow the schedule and the diet guidance he gives you.

How do Adinath experts perform Matra Basti?

At Adinath, Matra Basti is prescribed only by Dr. Gaurav Sharma after Nadi Pariksha and your diagnosis. The oil and the daily schedule are set for your body — a person with constipation with dryness gets a different oil than one with back pain.

The sittings are given gently and with care, and the doctor reviews your response as the course continues. When needed, Matra Basti is combined with medicines, diet guidance and other therapies as part of a complete plan.

Benefits of Matra Basti

Back and joint support
Warm oil nourishes the back and joints, easing the stiffness and ache of Vata.
Better bowel function
The oil softens dryness in the colon, so the bowels move more easily and regularly.
Vata balance
Daily gentle nourishment brings the dosha behind dryness, pain and restlessness back towards balance.
Strength building
Nourished tissues grow stronger over the course, instead of staying weak and dry.
Less dryness
The oil counters dryness across the body — skin, joints and bowels all feel the difference.
Better sleep
A calmer Vata means a quieter mind and easier sleep.
Gentle daily nourishment
Because it is mild, the body receives steady nourishment day after day, which is what chronic problems need.
